Counselling for Parents

Face-to-face in Mount Barker or online across South Australia

I support parents and caregivers of autistic teenagers who want to better understand their child and feel more confident in how they support them. Parenting an autistic teen can be rewarding and deeply challenging, especially when navigating burnout, school systems, mental health concerns, or escalating stress at home. Sessions offer a space to explore what’s happening beneath behaviour, strengthen connection, and learn autism-informed strategies that are compassionate and realistic. The goal is not perfection, but greater clarity, reduced conflict, and a more supportive environment for both you and your teen.

Free 15‑Minute Consultation

I offer a free 15‑minute consultation so you can get a feel for whether working together is the right fit, with no obligation to continue. This brief session is a chance to ask questions, share a little about what you’re looking for, and experience my approach in a low‑pressure way. There’s no expectation to commit, and no preparation required. Many people find this helpful for easing uncertainty and deciding their next step at a pace that feels safe and manageable

Counselling for Teens & Young Adults (Ages 13-20)

Face-to-face in Mount Barker or online across South Australia

Counselling for autistic teenagers is flexible, collaborative, and paced to suit each young person’s needs. I support teens with challenges such as emotional regulation, anxiety, school stress, social exhaustion, self-esteem, and navigating identity during adolescence. Sessions are structured enough to feel safe, but adaptable — we can talk, write, use visuals, or take breaks as needed. The focus is on helping teens feel understood, build practical coping tools, and develop confidence in who they are, rather than trying to make them fit neurotypical expectations.

Counselling for autistic adults and loved ones

Face-to-face in Mount Barker or online across South Australia

.I offer autism-affirming counselling for autistic adults at all stages of life, including those who are newly diagnosed, self-identified, or still exploring what autism means for them. Sessions provide a calm, respectful space to work through anxiety, burnout, identity questions, masking, relationships, and life transitions. My approach centres your lived experience and autonomy ; there is no pressure to communicate in a particular way or to change who you are. Where helpful and with your consent, I also work with partners, family members, or other loved ones to support understanding, communication, and healthier dynamics.

Family counselling

Face to face in Mount Barker and online accrpss South Australia

Family counselling provides an autism-informed space for families to better understand each other’s communication styles, sensory needs, and emotional experiences. Sessions focus on reducing misunderstandings, supporting regulation, and strengthening relationships without blame or pressure to change autistic traits. Together, we explore practical strategies that respect neurodiversity, support connection, and help families navigate everyday challenges in a way that feels calmer, clearer, and more sustainable for everyone involved.

NDIS Participants

I can work with self-managed and plan-managed participants.

If you're using NDIS funding, I can provide invoices that meet NDIS requirements and make the process straightforward for you. This is particularly relevant for neurodivergent teens and young adults accessing support under their NDIS plans.

Please feel free to reach out if you'd like to discuss how counselling can fit within your plan.

Medicare Mental Health Care Plans

At this time, Medicare Mental Health Care Plans do not provide rebates for counselling.

The good news is that you don’t need a referral or Mental Health Care Plan to see me. You can simply get in touch directly — send a message below or call to book an appointment.

If you already have a Mental Health Care Plan, you’re still very welcome to work with me. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. Affordable care – My fee is often similar to, or lower than, the out-of-pocket cost (gap fee) you may pay when seeing a psychologist under Medicare.

  2. Short wait times – I can usually offer an appointment within 2 weeks of your first contact.

  3. Ongoing support – Counselling with me isn’t capped at a set number of sessions, which means you can access continuous care at the pace that works for you.

 FAQs

  • It varies. Some people find a few sessions helpful, others benefit from longer-term support. We'll regularly check in about what's working and what you need.

  • Yes, with specific exceptions: if there's a risk of serious harm to the teen or someone else, or if there's abuse or neglect. I'll explain this clearly in our first session. Building trust means teens need to know what they share stays private.

  • That's very common. We can start with parent-only sessions to understand what's happening and develop strategies. Sometimes teens become willing to attend once they see changes at home. Other times, supporting the parent is enough to shift the family dynamic.

  • Counselling sessions can be conducted via telehealth from the comfort of your home. You will be provided with a link to a video call. Alternatively we can meet face to face.

  • For telehealth appointments, payment is required in advance. Once your session is booked, you will receive a secure payment link.

For in-person consultations, payment can be made after the session using card or bank transfer.

  • The best way to find out is through a free 15-minute phone consultation. This gives us a chance to talk briefly about what's happening, and you can get a sense of my approach and whether we're a good fit.

If after our chat you feel I'm not the right fit, that's completely okay. But if it feels like we could work well together, we can book your first full session and get started.
